  3. Wood Sandpiper viewing, Sharp-tailed Sandpiper, other birds today LINK
    DATE: Sep 22, 2018 @ 9:54pm, 26 day(s) ago
Hi all, Glad the Wood Sand was seen by so many today! Unfortunately somebody felt the need to walk out into the wetland leaving a bunch of deep footprints in the mud there. The wetlands are technically private property and one should only be birding them from the beach side and not walking into the wetlands themselves. I hope your pictures were worth leaving such an obvious trace!

On another note Mario Balitbit, who noted the footprints in the Wood Sandpiper area (and didn't see the Wood Sandpiper then) found a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER at the far north end of the wetlands, in the grassy area north of the last large bit of water.

Other things today were a continuing very dull BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER at Janes Creek Meadows in Arcata (see previous post for directions). A MAGNOLIA WARBLER was found by George Ziminsky on the north side of Klopp Lake at the Arcata Marsh. A PRAIRIE WARBLER was found out at the Horse Pasture patch out on the north spit by Amaya Bechler and Alexandra Lamb and a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER continued there, too.

    Happy September vagranting,

Bill Moramarco found it. We are standing on the been, looking east. Two of us had a bird that looked like a Black Rail, but we don't dare enter it into eBird.

    Hi all,
WOOD SANDPIPER still present at sw corner of the Centerville Wetlands this morning. Also a continuing SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER and 4 species of falcons, with the highlight being a PRAIRIE FALCON that got every shorebird up and flying around the wetland. If you still want to chase this Wood Sand you had better do it soon!

Hi, I might leave LA tomorrow night (Friday 9/21/18) for Marin County and Humboldt, chasing the Eastern Yellow Wagtail and the Wood Sandpiper. If I am up there, I would also like to take a stab at Ruffed Grouse, which would be a life bird.
I don't want to only count on the Google Maps provided by eBird for these locations. Please email me (or even hit 'reply all') for specifics of where to park, walk, then look for the 3 species mentioned, above.
    Thanks,

FYI, if chasing this bird please use the Centerville Wetlands hotspot.

This morning the Wood Sandpiper was refound by Alexandra Lamb at the Centerville Werlands west of Ferndale. The bird continues in the SW corner of the southern pond and is being seen by many folks.
